We bought this little place almost 10 years ago. Our daughter was a tiny thing then, but one thing was for sure…she loved the outdoors! Nothing made her happier than to run barefoot for hours in the grass! City life was just not going to work for our family…
The house is old, strong and free from the usual atrocities that plague old homes. We have a lovely old barn, a workshop and even our original outhouse! We were told when we moved here that our pasture offered some of the nicest hay in the area. We are only the second family to live here and we are grateful that the owner knew we would treasure her family home.
Since 1999 our farm has been free of chemical fertilizers, pest management and other toxins. When we began making a move to a more sustainable life a few years ago we realized how important our decision to remain chemical free had become. We are not “Certified Organic” nor will we be in the near future. The exorbitant cost involved cannot be justified on our small scale. However, we do use only Certified Organic feeds and products and our farm is managed in accordance with standards for Certification.
This year we made to decision to bring our love of animals, good food and natural, organic farming together and actively work at growing our small family farm. And after 10 years in the making we are “officially” The Farm at Nanticoke Creek.
We share our home with the animals and hope that in the years to come we are able to build a farm to home connection with our friends, family and neighbors that fosters the true meaning of community. Knowing where our food comes from, knowing who grows it and the reasons why they do. Tending our lives like our gardens and animals…with caring, compassion and hope.
